Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Desire Connect (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our request-and-offer marketplace Platform. It should be read together with our Terms and Conditions.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to personal information processed through the Desire Connect website, related apps, and services that link to this Policy. It covers Buyers, Sellers/Recommenders, visitors, and other users of Platform features described in our product documentation (accounts, requests, offers, chat, ratings, wallet/payments, and admin moderation).
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide and information generated through use of the Platform, including: • Account and profile data: name, email, phone number, password (stored in hashed form), profile photo, and role/preferences; • Authentication data: login credentials, OTP verification codes/status, and social login identifiers (e.g., Google) when you choose that option; • Marketplace content: requests (item name, description, category, budget, location, photos), offers/recommendations, statuses, and related metadata; • Communications: in-platform chat messages and associated conversation metadata; • Trust and safety data: ratings, reviews, reports/flags, and moderation actions; • Payments and wallet data: transaction records, payment method references, escrow/status events, and wallet activity (we do not store full payment card secrets where a payment provider processes them); • Technical data: device/browser information, IP address, approximate location derived from network data, logs, and cookies or similar technologies; • Support correspondence you send to us.
3. How We Use Information
We use personal information to: • create and manage accounts and verify contact details; • operate marketplace features (requests, offers, recommendations, search/filter, notifications); • enable chat, offer acceptance, fulfillment flows, ratings, and reviews; • process payments, wallet top-ups, and escrow release where enabled; • prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents (including rate limiting and monitoring); • moderate content and handle reports through admin tools; • improve Platform performance, usability, and customer support; • send service-related notices (security, transactional, and important product updates); • comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
Depending on applicable law, we process personal information based on: • performance of a contract (providing the Platform you requested); • legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, product improvement, and platform integrity), balanced against your rights; • consent (where required, such as certain cookies or optional marketing); and/or • legal obligations (recordkeeping, responding to lawful requests).
5. How We Share Information
We may share personal information with: • other users, as needed for marketplace functionality (e.g., request/offer details, public profile elements, ratings/reviews, and chat participants); • service providers who help us host, secure, message, analyze, or process payments (under appropriate contractual safeguards); • professional advisors and authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity; • a successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, subject to continued privacy protections. We do not sell your personal information as a consumer data broker. Admin staff may access information as needed for support, moderation, and operations under role-based access controls.
6. Payments and Financial Data
Payment processing may be handled by third-party providers. Those providers process payment credentials according to their own terms and security standards. We receive transaction confirmations, status updates, and records needed to operate wallet/escrow features and customer support. You are responsible for ensuring payment details you use are authorized and accurate.
7. Security Measures
We implement administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including: • hashed password storage (e.g., bcrypt or equivalent); • encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS); • authenticated sessions (e.g., JWT-based access controls) and role-based permissions; • input validation, rate limiting, and infrastructure protections such as firewalling and abuse prevention tools where deployed. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You can help protect your account by using a strong unique password and safeguarding OTP codes.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Platform, maintain account history, meet legal/accounting/security requirements, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods vary by data type (for example, transaction records may be kept longer than temporary OTP codes). When data is no longer required, we delete or anonymize it where feasible.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to: • access the personal information we hold about you; • correct inaccurate information; • request deletion or restriction of processing; • object to certain processing; • withdraw consent where processing is consent-based; • request a copy of certain data in a portable format. You can update many profile details directly in account settings. To exercise other rights, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You may also lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority where available.
10. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential session management, security, preferences (such as language), and analytics/performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect Platform functionality (for example, staying signed in).
11. Children’s Privacy
The Platform is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. International Processing
We may process and store information on servers or with providers located in Cameroon and other countries. Where data is transferred internationally, we take steps designed to provide appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable law and the nature of the service.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated through the Platform and/or email where appropriate. Continued use after an update means you acknowledge the revised Policy.
